| ComVu Launches World’s First Live
Video Broadcast Solution From a Mobile Phone to a Mass Audience |
| Revolutionary Technology Opens Doors
to Citizen Journalism Via a 3G Phone Direct to the DVB-H Network
for Quality Worldwide Broadcast |
| (NAB 2006: LAS VEGAS, NV) – ComVu, a leading company
in the personal mobile video broadcasting industry, today announced
the world’s first live video broadcasting from a 3G camera phone
direct to the DVB-H (Digital Video Broadcasting – Handheld)
network. ComVu is working closely with Modeo, a pioneer in mobile
television broadcast technology, to provide millions of citizen
reporters with the ability to broadcast breaking news live to
a global television audience. ComVu’s demonstration of user-generated
video broadcasting using Windows Media technologies from a camera
phone to a Modeo-enabled device will be hosted at Microsoft’s
booth SL1161 at the NAB 2006 convention in Las Vegas, April
24-27. |
| "It’s an exciting time for the broadcast industry when
millions of mobile consumers can view high quality television
on Modeo integrated DVB-H smartphones with Windows Media technologies,"
says William Mutual, CEO of ComVu. "ComVu currently offers
mobile newscasters an efficient way to broadcast live to a few
thousand simultaneous viewers. However, with DVB-H, ComVu will
enable the ultimate distribution solution for citizen powered
journalism and user generated content with immediate reach by
next year to an audience in the tens of millions worldwide."
|
| Traditionally, broadcast television networks were the exclusive
domains of the big media giants. In the last decade, streaming
media over the Internet allowed for a much larger number of
organizations to participate in broadcasting; however, it lacked
scalability and ease of use. Now, ComVu and its partners offer
the best of both worlds using Windows Media technologies and
the DVB-H technologies – it is scalable, available for average
citizens to broadcast and provided in the mobile realm. DVB-H
is the latest development within the set of DVB transmission
standards and meets the specific requirements of handheld, battery-powered
receivers. |
| The NAB demonstrations will use camera phones leveraging the
Windows Mobile 5.0 powered camera phones, equipped with ComVu’s
PocketCaster software to broadcast live video to Modeo-enabled
devices. ComVu’s live broadcasts are delivered using Windows
Media technologies, including Windows Media Video and Windows
Media Audio (WMA). |
| "The combination of Windows Mobile 5.0 powered devices
and the Windows Media platform is creating exciting new mobile
media opportunities ," said Chad Hodge director of Windows
Digital Media at Microsoft Corp. "By leveraging the ComVu
PocketCaster application the same Windows Media technologies
that are used to deliver professional content to mobile viewers
over Modeo's network can be used for consumers to gain access
to a global audience." |
| ComVu sits at the forefront of converging developments in
wireless and entertainment, where mobile phones are gaining
high-end cameras and powerful processors, and where everyday
people are creating and sharing their own content. ComVu’s cutting
edge software is aided by Windows Mobile’s flexible and open
platform - designed to help multimedia partners develop innovative
content for people on the go. Research group Informa Telecoms
& Media believe that there will be 74 million DVB-H subscribers
by 2010, more than 50% of all mobile TV handset sales. Modeo
has announced plans to officially launch its DVB-H mobile broadcast
network and its commercial-grade multicast mobile broadcast
center during 2006 in select major U.S. markets, including New
York City. The company currently is working on deployment of
the network to the top 30 U.S. market with launches targeted
throughout 2007. |
